This month is a great reminder that Self Love is actually the complete opposite of those words.
I love that a Hallmark holiday can remind us of the best human emotion - LOVE.
Self love is a solid foundation for living. It's a state of appreciation for yourself that grows from actions that support physical, psychological and spiritual growth.
Self love is having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness by taking care of your own needs without sacrificing it to please others.
Self love is acceptance and appreciation for every inch of you - flaws and all.
How can you create self love in real time?
Eliminate your self sabotaging comments and choose to talk to yourself with compassion, kindness and compliments.
Stop asking yourself unproductive questions that lead to nowhere or to your past mistakes and choose to make purposeful inquires that lead to a future you want to create
Start noticing when your focus goes straight to your fears and direct them to your dreams and the endless possibilities
Practice Forgiveness. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. It doesn't excuse bad behavior rather it gives us the peace we need to carry on.
Practice physical self care. Take care of your basic needs. Nourish yourself with daily healthy activities like nutrition, sleep, exercise, intimacy and social connection.
Here's the bottom line:
You can't give what you don't have. Learning to love yourself with your words and your practices helps you to create self love from the inside - out. It's not reliant on anything outside of you (like someone or something) to feel good - you get to create it from within.
And it's the gift that keeps on giving. When you fill your cup, it has no where to go but overflow. Overflow onto your family, friends, teams, organizations, businesses. A beautiful ripple effect.
In addition, that gift models to others how to create it for themselves as well.
This month take the opportunity to practice self love by bringing awareness to how you are treating yourself internally.
Then tap in to one of the suggested practices above, expand your self love muscle and watch your overall happiness grow!
